The Vodka

The Story
The roots of Polmos Lublin and ORZEL Vodka date back to 1906. Famous industrialist Emil Plage
founded the company and began the production of the first distilled spirits. Thanks to the devotion of his successors the company survived through the
storms of both world wars; and as a result, revived production in 1944. It looked as if the worst was over but the communist regime, which came to rule
in post-war Poland, did not allow the enterprise to exist in its original state. Nationalization of private manufacturers went ahead and the property
was seized in 1951 by the National Alcohol Monopoly. Such a fate was soon experienced by every other distillery in Poland.
For the next fifty years, the company from Lublin was managed by the government. As political changes took
root in Poland, the status of the distillery gradually changed. The company was first restructured as a joint-stock company with shareholding held by
the State, before being privatized. Since 2007 Stock Polska/Polmos Lublin has been a part of the International Stock Spirits Group. Throughout it all
the company has survived to become a leading manufacturer of specialty vodkas and one of the most important players in the branded drinks market.
At the 2010 Ultimate Spirits Challenge, Orzel Vodka was awarded the Chairman’s Trophy scoring 96 out of 100
